General Banking Conditions

Change of the General Banking Conditions as of March 1, 2017

The General Banking Conditions, including the standard rules governing the relationship between clients and banks, have been simplified, clarified and amended. The adjusted conditions have been written in simpler, more straightforward Dutch and include examples for clarification.

The conditions were adjusted in close consultation between the Dutch Banking Association (NVB) and the Dutch Consumers’ Association following a joint evaluation of the conditions dating from 2009. As the conditions apply to consumers and business clients alike, the NVB consulted the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW), MKB-Nederland (representing the interests of Dutch SMEs), LTO Nederland (Dutch Federation for Agriculture and Horticulture) and the Dutch business association ONL voor Ondernemers.

All members of the NVB use the same General Banking Conditions. In addition, each bank applies separate agreements and terms and conditions (special conditions) to specific products and services. These differ by bank and may deviate from the General Banking Conditions.

The adjusted conditions state that any provisions included in the special terms and conditions that conflict with the General Banking Conditions take precedence over the General Banking Conditions, provided they do not infringe on the rights or protection provided to consumers by the General Banking Conditions.

More information is available on the site de Nederlandse Vereniging van Banken (NVB) (in Dutch only).
